Kids Fishing Day 6/1/03
It was a perfect day for fishing! 35 of 37 kids caught fish and caught them all day long. The others had bites all day long but they were a little more interested in all the goodies in their new tackle boxes that they received. Every kid who participated received his or her own Zebco rod and reel and Plano tackle box. As they caught fish they had their pictures taken and the big fish were weighed for the big fish contest. All the fish were released alive. The winners of the Big Fish award went to Victoria Zoiss 1.1 lbs bass on the Girls side And Austen Koenig 1.4 lbs bass on the boys 12 and under. Dan Norred caught the biggest bass of the day at 2.7 lbs bass in the teenage group.
Just when it was time to eat the hot dogs, chips and freeze pops, the fishing turned on. It was crazy we took close to 200 pictures for the day. We also had fried chicken from Pat Rhea’s Chicken Basket of Plainfield. There are a lot of people to thank for the success of this years kids fishing day. I’m only going to name a few. First I would like to thank my wife Lisa for her support and sacrifice she’s had to put up with all the meetings and phone calls to plan this event. Jim Riordan and Scott Colesby without them this day wouldn’t of been a success. I would also like to thank Kevin Gofron, Bud Edmunds, Jeff Cole and his wife Pat, Mike Stephenson and Scott Zoiss from our club. A very special thanks goes out to Mike Glynn, Tim Donavan and Pat Sweeney and his club members for providing an incredible fishing experience that those kids will never forget.
A special thanks to Scott Beschorner from Strictly Fishing in Plainfield. Scott’s expertise helped provide the kids with the proper equipment. Ed Shirley’s sports also played a large part by donating rods and reels for the younger kids. A special thanks to Craig King of Embroid Me of Villa Park for making us look so good .The Illinois Bass Anglers club is a B.A.S.S. Federation Club. We also hold a benefit tournament for Cystic Fibrosis and contribute to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Finally from all of us at the Illinois Bass Anglers club we would like to thank all of our sponsors, without your support we couldn’t have provided the same level of positive experiences for the kids of tomorrow.
